Transport To and from the airport

Travel from the airport without any worrying? Then the above bus are able companies to help you. Stoke-on-Trent itself has no airport, but the nearest airport is Manchester (MAN). This airport is about 60 kilometres away, and is approximately a 45 minutes drive.

In the Stoke-on-Trent region are no large airports with scheduled flights available. If you want to go to Stoke-on-Trent by plane, it is the easiest way to fly to East Midlands (EMA), Birmingham (BHX) or Manchester (MAN).

Manchester and Birmingham are served by smaller airlines and budget airlines like Ryan Air and Easy Jet. Also major airlines such as KLM and British Airways serve scheduled flights to these destinations. East Midlands is exclusively served by budget airlines and tour operators such as Ryanair and Thomas Cook Airlines.

From Birmingham and East Midlands is an hour long (about 100 KM) travel to Stoke-on-Trent. From Manchester (60 KM) is it about 45 minutes. If you want to get to your final destination in a very comfortable way, you can consider private transportation with driver (taxi, bus, minibus). This is possible from all the airports I mentioned above.

Travel by road

Do you prefer a car with driver, minibus or coach during your holiday? Stoke-on-Trent has an excellent road network. The county is served by the M6 and M1. These highways go directly to Manchester in the north, and Birmingham and London in the south. The A50 takes you straight to the heart of the region.

Tunstall 

The most northern part of the city is surrounded by medieval tile and brick walls. Industrial heritage is still present in Tunstall. In recent years, this village evolved as shopping destination. The construction of the Alexandra Retail Park contributed to these development and many well-known stores have settled in this part of the city.

Burslem

Burslem has the last real working industrial district of England. The people live within walking distance of the factories. You can really taste the industrial atmosphere in town. Burslem offers a wide variety of tourist attractions, Burleigh, Moorcroft, Festival Park and the Trent & Mersey Canal are some examples.

Hanley 

This part of the city is the centre of the city. It offers the largest shopping centre of the city. The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery is one of the cultural attractions. Also Annual Stoke Pride site take place in this part of the city. This is a festival that you can compare with the Gay Pride in Amsterdam.

Trentham Monkey Forest

Animal lovers cannot ignore this park. Meet 140 Barbary monkeys in the monkey forest. It is a special park that] initially focuses on the propagation of the monkeys, by letting them live in a natural environment. No bars or cages in this park, you can just see the monkeys swinging through the trees. Stroking or cuddling is also possible. You can see the monkeys at the Stone Road in Trentham.

Ford Green Hall

This 17th century wooden farm is home to the Ford family. They decided to open the farm open for the public, against a small fee. You can take a look at the historic garden, or in one of the cozy rooms. These are decorated with textiles, ceramics and furniture. This will give you insight into the English farmer life in the 17th century. The address is Ford Green Road in Small Thorne.

Emma Bridgewater Ltd

This Victorian pottery factory is located in the heart of the Potteries region. During a visit to this factory a guided tour is one of the possibilities. You can also make your own pottery. There is also the possibility to have lunch in the canteen of the factory. You can also spend an afternoon in the garden of the factory. At the end of the day you can take a look at the factory shop. This factory is located at the Lichfield Street.

The Trentham Gardens 

These gardens are rewarded in 2010 with an award for the best restoration, enhancement, and development price. Besides walking, you can also go for boat trips and train trips. The gardens are open every season of the year. Each season has its own beauties, so a visit is always worthwhile. For groups of 12 people, you can get a special welcome (on reservation). The gardens are also easy accessible for disabled people. You can visit the gardens at the Stone Road, Trentham.

Churnet Valley Railway

Take a trip to the past, by going on the steam train. The ride allows you to see the beautiful countryside all its glory. You can also get out at different railway stations, to get a closer look to the landscape. The journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The Kingsley and Froghall Station is the boarding point.

The Regent Theatre 

This beautiful theatre offers a high quality and diverse program. Opera, national ballet, drama and Broadway musicals are offered here. The authentic classic look of this place adds a new experience to your visit. You can find this theatre in Piccadilly which is the cultural area of Stoke-on-Trent.

Britannia Stadium

True football fans should not miss a visit to this stadium. Stoke City plays all its home games at this stadium. This club takes part in the highest league of English football, the Premier League. This stadium was opened in 1997 and can accommodate 27,743 spectators. This stadium is on the Stanley Matthews Way, in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent. Outside the competition days is a stadium tour is possible. In 45 minutes you get to see the dressing rooms, VIP boxes and substitute bench.

Shopping

"Intu Potteries" the place to be with lots of shops with well-known brands. There is an enormous garage, so the mall can be reached very easy. Each month there are various events and competitions.

In Stoke-on-Trent you can enjoy good food. If you want to eat a local dish you should walk into an Oatcake restaurant. An oatcake looks like a stuffed pancake. In this region you can find a shop that sells this specialty on every street of the street.

"Baby Russets" is a restaurant on the Kingsway. This traditional English restaurant serves a variety of traditional dishes from sweets and cake, to steaks, seafood and daily specials. For groups, this restaurant offers the possibility of a limited menu. The decor of this restaurant is a blend of orange, brown and red. Of course you can also find of the many pubs within walking distance. They offer traditional dishes, for an attractive price. An example of a cosy pub is the "Horn & Trumpet" pub at the Leek road. This is a family friendly pub, and has several daily deals.
