TT-Circuit Assen

In the city lies the TT-Circuit Assen. This circuit is used for the World Superbike Championship and the British Superbike Championship. The circuit was built in the year 1955. The track is 4545 meters long and 10 meters wide. The festival Truckstar is also held in this circuit. This is an annual event in the month of July, and is the largest transportation event in Europe. Besides races, concerts are also held in this venue.

Drents Museum

This is the most important museum in the province of Drenthe, because you can find a lot on the prehistory of the region and other historic information. You will find bones of Mammoths and objects of Neanderthals. The museum also has a museum dedicated to children between the ages of 12-16 years. This is the Children Packed Energy. You can also come here on a schooltrip or for a birthday party. You can also take a tour in the Drents Museum. By participating in a tour you get a lot more background information on the exhibits. Verkeerspark Assen

This is a park in Assen where children can learn to drive cars and learn about traffic. The park is located just outside the city next to the TT circuit. Children are turned into drivers and are helped out by Agent Bromsnor. Here children can go off roading in Jeeps, ride a boat, fly in a helicopter and drive trains. It is the best and largest traffic park in Europe, and is perfect for a day out with the kids.

Assen offers very nice shopping opportunities. All major department stores and famous shops can be found here. Shopping on the Mercury Square is very nice and cosy. After or during your shopping, you can relax in the Bull"s Eye Cafe. Here you can enjoy a delicious lunch or a surprising dinner. The location is also suitable for receptions, corporate outings, weddings and other events. The Bull"s Eye Cafe is located on the Brink in Assen, the heart of the shopping district and opposite the Drents Museum. The Grand Café is also accessible for disabled people.

Excursions and day trips

The company Holland Tour Guides offers day trips in the form of a city walk. In this walk you will walk with a professional guide along the canals of the city and you can enjoy the beautiful architecture. You will pass all of the famous sites of the city such as the former County Hall (now the Drents Museum), the Abbey Church, the Palace of Justice and the Drents Archief. In the southwest of the province Drenthe lays a special nature area. In this area is the National Park Dwingelderveld. This National Park is visited by people from across the country. What is unique about this National Park is that it is the largest contiguous area of wet heath in Western Europe. In this park there are forests, moors and fens. There are also many walking and cycling routes. You can also take a guided tour, which allows you to access places where you can often not come.
