To the forts of Pentimele by bus:

If you are lovers of photography, you will surely enjoy a privileged position above the city to take general shots of great beauty. You can get them from the Pentimele forts, ancient military buildings that dominate the Strait of Messina, which separates Reggio Calabria from Sicily. You can climb walking (calculate a couple of hours) but perhaps you will find it easier to tell the driver of the minibus to drive you up the hill. Make sure to do it when the sky is clear and the views reach the Etna volcano in Sicily. Don"t go up the Hill of Pentimele without a camera, or at least have prepared your mobile phone since the views are worth it! There are 7 kilometres from the centre until the "Collina di Pentimele".

Paseo Marítimo Falcomatà: for many visitors, this promenade with the local name of Viale Italo Falcomatà is the most beautiful of all Italy. Not in vain, it is known as "the most beautiful kilometer in Italy", because of the buildings which are facing the sea, the gardens that adorn it and the exquisite care they have with it. Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta: it would not be possible to think that you have visited an Italian city without having seen its cathedral or main "duomo". Here in Reggio Calabria, the Cathedral of Santa Maria, located in the inevitable Piazza del Duomo, is an impressive white building whose origins date from the beginning of the second millennium, no less! It is impressive on the outside as much as it is on the inside.

The gelateria Da Cesare, located in Piazza Indipendenza, halfway to Lungomare Falcomatà, is an institution in the city and it is considered by some people one of the best in all Italy. Ask for a brioche with hazelnut icecream at Da Cesare hazelnut is one of the greatest pleasures that you can experience at a gustatory level in your trip around the country in the form of boot. As almost everyone likes ice cream, it is a good time to invite the driver of your bus to a couple scoops of icecream.

Tours in Calabria

While Calabria is not so well-known to tourists as other regions of Italy (perhaps its fame is due to negative situations such as the mafia, the same that happens in neighbouring Sicily), the climate of this region and its geographical and historical variety make the visit recommendable, without a doubt.

The Calabria region is composed of five provinces, and it is bathed by the Tirenico and Ionian Seas, and separated from Sicily by the Strait of Messina. It is a land dominated by the sea, and it has landscapes and beaches of so much beauty that they can compete perfectly with the famous beaches of Sardinia, for example. Your tour with private transport in a rented bus with driver around Calabria can start at beaches as the one of San Nicola Arcella, with its arch of rock, or villages of incredible charm as the one of Scilla deserve no doubt the visit.

What to see and what to do in Calabria

A unique enclave: Scilla

Calabria combines seascapes of turquoise water and white and fine sand with historical heritage as few regions in Italy, and both come together in Scilla impressively. 20 minutes away by bus from Reggio Calabria, in this mythological town cited by Homer you can visit the Ruffo Castle, perched high on the rocks above the sea; the small village of fishermen and  the beautiful beach, of course.

Arcomagno in San Nicola Arcella

In the province of Cosenza, 250 kilometres approximately from the city of Reggio Calabria, is the beach of Arcomagno in San Nicola Arcella. Although this tour will take you about three hours on the way to go and back, it would be unforgivable to be in Calabria and not to see  see this unique place.

This spectacular enclave, also known as Sarreceno cave, is close to the beach of La Marinella, and to reach it you have to do it either swimming, or on a boat. If you swim to it, make sure to do it slowly to avoid losing breath halfway. Once you are there, you will feel it has been worthwhile, for sure.

Visit to the town of Tropea

Seeing the picture of this beautiful place, located about 100 kilometers from Reggio Calabria, perhaps think that it will be another day enjoying a wonderful beach. And no doubt the town of Tropea, in the province of Vibo Valentia, which you will reach after an hour and a half ride by rental bus with chauffeur, is surrounded by a seascape really worth seeing. However, in this case the visit to the city itself is very interesting, since a stroll through its charming streets and a visit to the monastery of Santa Maria, on top of a steep rock are really worthwhile, apart from taking a swim in its transparent waters.
