Tours in the Southend-On-Sea

Southend-On-Sea is a town and seaside resort in the county of Essex. It lies on the north side of the Thames estuary, in the Thames Gateway, and is located about 64 kilometers east of central London. Southend-On-Sea is bordered to the west by Castle Point and to the west by Rochford. Southend-On-Sea is known for the longest pier in the world: the Southend Pier. The city now offers much more than the recreational pier: restaurants, clubs, shops, theaters and museums. Southend-On-Sea is the largest town in the county of Essex and is very easy to reach. The London Southend Airport (SEN), which is situated on the North side of the city center of London, is also very close and is one of the six major airports of London. From London you can travel by train in less than an hour in Southend-On-Sea. Southend attracted many tourists in the summer months and it grew into a resort. There was plenty of beach space to swim in the sea. There were good rail connections. Besides the tourist area Southend was also known as sleeping city. Employees who worked in London often lived in Southend and commuted every day up and down.
