Madrid is actually one of Europe´s most popular destination when it comes to sight-seeing. Before we start with our suggestions for this tour we recommend a really nice place to have some coffee and breakfast: Café de Oriente, located at the Plaza de Oriente.
It can not be ignored that Madrid is a royal city. That is why you might want to go to the Royal Palace; one of Madrid´s largest and most gorgeous building! This Royal Palace is located in the western part of Madrid, at Calle de Bailén, and it is actually the biggest palace in Western-Europe. The history of this palace is amazing, you should definitely check it out. If you want we suggest to spend around 3 hrs in this building, which means that you will have time enough to experience the in -and outside of this outstanding building.
We will continue with our suggestions and advise a stop at the Plaza de Oriente. This place is very close to the Royal Palace and is quiet and peaceful. This Plaza is a popular place for tourists as well as for local people. The gardens of the Royal Palace are close and the surroundings are beautiful. There is a huge amount of restaurants and bars were you might have some time to relax before you continue your daytrip.
At this time we think it would be nice to visit the Almudena Cathedral, which is located at Calle de Bailén. It will take you less than 5 minutes. When you arrive at the cathedral you might have enough time to go in and experience the great achitecture of this master piece.
It is lunch time in Spain and therefore we suggest a restaurant which is located close to the Almudena Cathedral. The name of the restaurant is El Anciano Rey de los Vinos, also at Calle de Bailén and perfect for a lunch break.
After a visit of the Almudena Cathedral we suggest to drive further to the Puerta del Sol, Madrid´s most famous square in the middle of the city centre. There are several statues, typical Spanish streets, nice restaurants and shops. We suggest to have some free time to enjoy this location before you continue your tour.
Another sight that we recommend is the Bernabéu Stadium, the world famous soccer stadium of Madrid and located at Avenida de Concha Espina. The ride to the stadium will take around 15 minutes. Soccer fan or not, you will definitely be impressed by this amazing building. There are possibilities to book a guided tour through the stadium which will lead you to the ¨presidential box¨, the dressing rooms, players tunnel, the playing field and of course the museum which includes all the famous trophies.
The next sight you might want to visit in this city is the Faro de Madrid, located at Avenida de los Reyes Católicos. The ride to the Faro will take you around 20 minutes.
The Faro de Madrid is a tower and if you take the lift to the top, you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view of the city. Definitely worth it to visit!
You will probably be hungry on this time of the day, that´s why we would like to advise a great tapas restaurant called ¨La Rosa¨, located at the Plaza Mayor. Here you can enjoy typical Spanish tapas and experience the amazing atmosphere.
