Saint Mary"s Basilica (Basílica de Santa María)

Built from 1743 to 1774, this building stands out on Main Street (calle Mayor) in the Old Town (Parte Vieja) of the city. It was built in the baroque style and features an altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin of Coro, who is the patroness of the city. Next to the baptismal font you can see a cross-shaped sculpture made by Eduardo Chilliada; the entry gate is parallel to the entrance to the Good Shepherd Cathedral (la Catedral del Buen Pastor).

We recommend planning a group outing to the city"s historic district, near the Good Shepherd Cathedral, to admire the varied architecture. A short walk away is Constitution Square (Plaza de la Constitución), which is the heart of the old town and the site of the most important local festivals, including San Sebastián Day, which is celebrated every January 20th.

Miramar Palace has the best views of Donostia-San Sebastián; Queen María Cristina and the Royal Family first began using it as a summer home in 1887, and it has spectacular vistas of the beaches in the bay and Santa Clara Island. Saint Vincent"s Church (la Iglesia de San Vicente), which dates from the 16th century, is the oldest temple in the city and features a sculpture of Piety (La Piedad) by artist Jorge Oteiza on one of its side façades.

And don"t forget Cristina Enea Park, which has peacocks, exotic trees, and swans; it was designed by Pierre Ducasse, and many people consider it to be an ideal place to relax and reenergize after a day full of walking.
