Shopping

In the cities you especially enjoy a day of shopping or a bite to eat. In the evening the city has a thriving nightlife and there are several bars and clubs. Utrecht also has the Beatrix Theatre and the Jaarbeurs. In the Beatrix Theater many different theater or musical performances are held year round and the Jaarbeurs holds grand (business) events throughout the year.

Nature

Nature lovers can enjoy a lovely day out at the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. You can also make nice walks along the Loosdrecht lakes in the north and there are pleasant walking routes along the major rivers in the south. For the more active types, there are also many water sports options. The touristy place Winkelpolder offers great hiking opportunities and canoe routes.

Architecture Park Makeblijde located on just outside the city of Utrecht is the perfect place to have business meetings but also to relax. The building is made of glass, which creates a beautiful play of light, and steel and is surrounded by an oasis of tranquility and space. Tourist attractions in Utrecht

Utrecht is well known for the Old Canal, the Cathedral of Utrecht (the 112 meter high Dom Tower), shopping mall Hoog Catharijne, The Beatrix Theatre, The Jaarbeurs, the Railway museum, Shop Sinkel and Museum Catharijne convent, but has many more attractions that are worth taking a look at.

Bike and Segway rides in Utrecht

Because the center of Utrecht is difficult to reach by car or bus, there are other nice possibilities to tour the real center of the city. Utrecht is well known for its Segway tours. After a short training you will start the tour with a tour guide and explore Utrecht on a Segway. It"s also possible to do a historical tour or do the tour of the vest. At the tourist office you can book these Segway tours.

Also tours by bike and scooter are very fun to do. A company that offers bicycle tours is Color Bike Tours. Schuttevaer is also a touring company and provides cruises and boat tours in and around the city. These tours are daily. The before mentioned company Bessling also provides bus tours of Utrecht.

The Dom Tower

This tower is the main feature of Utrecht. This tower is over 600 years old and 112 meters high. The cathedral has the tallest church tower in the Netherlands and is the tallest building in Utrecht. From 1254 the cathedral was built as the cathedral for the diocese of Utrecht and it was dedicated to St. Martin. In 1580 it became a Protestant church. It"s possible to do a tour during which the history of the tower is told. The Dom tower is only to be climbed with a guide.

The Beatrix Theater

This theater is one of the most visited places in Utrecht. The theater attracts thousands of visitors who come to see musicals by Joop van den Ende and other theatrical productions. It is very rewarding to watch one of the many shows. Besides theater and musical performances, you could also be into corporate events. In the Queen"s restaurant and brasserie you can enjoy a delicious bite to eat at any time of day. The Beatrix Theater is located at the station and there are plenty of parking options.

The Railway Museum

The museum is composed of 5 "worlds" where the visitor makes a journey through the history of the development of the railways. Each world represents a major part of history and is divided into historical, social, romantic or technological categories. It is quite an adventure and some worlds are classified as amusement park rides with a walk-through, dark ride and simulator attractions.

The Oude Gracht

The Old Canal is the most famous canal in Utrecht. The old canal is about two kilometers long and is the connection between the Rhine and the Vecht and intersects the entire city from south to north. The yards and wharfs of the Utrecht Old and New Canal are the most unique in the world. Along the Old Canal are all kinds of nice restaurants and shops and it"s really nice to enjoy the cozy atmosphere. If you"re travelling by coach, it is possible to park outside the city center and after a short walk you will easily reach the Old Canal.
