Your aim may be to visit Rome or to go partying in Rimini. We hope that you have at least 1 or 2 days to get to know the hidden charms of the surroundings of Ancona. Here are some of its treasures that you must keep in mind when organizing your bus trip.

Ancona mini bus or coach visits

Visit to the underground Camerano caves:

Located 15 minutes bus drive away by road from Ancona, in Via Maratti, in the town of Camerano. The long-distance caves make the legend real that ‘in Camerano, there is more beneath than on top of the surface". The origin of this labyrinthine route is uncertain, but the city can date from the 3rd century b.c., therefore, we can deduce that these caves are really ancient. The visit to them at night, especially in the heat of the summer, is a very interesting experience.

A day in the natural park of the Conero Riviera:

Do not hesitate to ask your driver to take you, in 20 minutes, to the natural park of the Conero Riviera, in Via Peschiera 30, in the village of Sirolo. What should you take there? If it is winter, a good coat and comfortable shoes, as well as your camera, since the views from this wooded hills are of rare beauty. Logically, if it is summer, you might also want to add a bathing suit, a towel and a pair of diving goggles and enjoy a bath in those heavenly waters, too. What more can you ask for?

Visit by coach to the nearby cities:

Once you have found the perfect beach in coastal villages such as Conero, Rimini or Riccione and after having enjoyed a few quiet days you must move to visit a couple of Italian cities. At a short distance from Ancona there are some emblematic cities of Italy, such as Rome, Florence or Bologna. You can move to them in about 2 or 3 hours of coach, therefore, you can organize perfectly a day tour of these beautiful cities. If your group does not value cultural subjects and you are looking for a good party then you can visit the beaches and discos in Rimini. You just need to make your driver promise that he will not go into the bus completely drunk the following morning...

Visits around Ancona without the need for a mini bus or coach:

Your driver has to have one day of rest, so you can take advantage of that moment to visit Ancona and its major attractions on foot, or in a very attractive means of transport, which is the boat.

Travel by boat from Ancona:

Since you are in the port of Ancona, and taking advantage of the fact that some Greek Islands, namely Patras and Igoumenitsa are at a reasonable distance, you can take a ferry and spend a day in the Hellenic country, or in a little piece of the country. In the summer season there are many different hours to go back and forth to the Islands, and you will not have any problem to find a time that will be convenient for you. You can see them here: http://www.ferries.gr/anek/anconaeuro.htm.

Cathedral of Ancona:

We already know that there is no city or town in Italy without a cathedral worthy of visit, and Ancona is no exception, of course. This one is in Piazzale del Duomo, i.e., the main square of the city, and it enjoys stunning views over the Adriatic. In addition, it is a Romanesque temple of undoubted architectural interest.

Trajan's arch:

This emblem of the city, a triumphal monument dating from the 1st century d. C., has only one drawback that makes it fade a bit, and it is the location in a secluded place in the harbour, in the North Pier. On the other hand, it is mandatory to see this contemporary witness of greatness of Emperor Trajan, in marble from Marmara.

Piazza del Plebiscito:

Which Italian city does not have an impressive square? In Ancona it is called square of the plebiscite and as usual it is the centre of social and cultural life of the city, besides concentrating palaces of great beauty and an atmosphere that is worth enjoying. As a special feature it has rectangular shape and different levels connected by ramps and stairs. The square is also known as "Square of the Pope" because of the statue by Clement XII, which is in the middle of it. Perhaps it is advisable that you take profit from the visit to the square to take a break, to eat something fast or refresh a bit.

The Cardeto Park:

If you are lovers of the views over the sea to make good panoramic photos, you can get close to this park in Via Cardeto and enjoy them. Despite being a little abandoned, the place is ideal for a stroll and a break from the architecture and the city.

Santa Maria of the Portonovo:

Another masterpiece of Italian Romanesque architecture, no doubt. It is located in the neighbourhood of the old port and it is an obligatory stop in the city. It dates from 1034 and both its construction and its location make it a very pleasant visit.

Eating in Ancona:

It seems that everywhere in Italy you can eat deliciously. In Ancona, it is so, certainly. From a creamy and refreshing ice cream to the most caloric dishes, you should not fail to taste the cuisine of Le Marche. You can start with a first dish of the area, "Vincisgrassi" (difficult name, of course), which consists of a Lasagna with meat to which each cook gives a personal touch. In truth, seeing it makes you hungry!

Nightlife in Ancona:

Being a quite small city, Ancona and its surroundings boast a surprisingly wide nightlife offer. There are several nightclubs to choose if you are dance-friendly, or plenty of options to enjoy a drink in the old port area, or along the streets of the city centre. An example is the Torino Bar, in Via Garibaldi 49, where you can enjoy an excellent meal based on snacks or tapas and then a good cocktail to finish.

Walking or by minibus in Ancona?

No doubt the answer is on foot and by bus, since both options will be necessary and useful to complete an Ancona visit that leaves you totally happy. The historical centre of Ancona and port deserve to be visited on foot, since there are relatively short distances and also if the weather is more or less pleasant, the walk is a delight.

Take a walk through the Cardeto Park (mentioned here above) the Cardeto Park and continue with the Cathedral of Ancona, the Trajan Arch and Santa Maria del Portonovo.

Starting from there, other visits are located away from the city and you should do them by coach with the help of your local driver. The advantage of him being from ‘around’ is that he knows how to find the best routes to drive quickly and comfortably. Thus, you only have to rest and enjoy the views along the way!

First of all, you save yourself the heavy crowds, and secondly you can enjoy beautiful places that few people know, and often at lower prices. This region bounded by mountains and sea enjoys precisely the charms and beauty of both natural landscapes. Thus, the hills are defining in this region, but also the peaks and with them the mountain lakes such as Lake Pilato, a glacier lake situated at almost 2000 meters of height, of great beauty in the time of the thaw; let alone the parks with gorges and caves as the Frasassi, in the province of Ancona. The towns and villages deserve their own separate chapter, as often happens in Italy, with all the charm and flavour that you may want.

Day trip to Lake Pilato

In the village of Montemonaco, at two hours from Ancona by bus via the A14 highway, is one of the most beautiful lakes in the region, the Pilato Lake. This mirror of Turquoise waters is located in the Monte Vettore, inside the National Park of the Sibillini Mountains, about 2000 meters of altitude. This haven of water is familiarly known as the "sunglasses Lake" (Lago degli occhialli, in Italian), because of the curious shape of two circles of water. A special feature of the Lake is that it dates back to the ice age, which gives its water a quality of mirror that makes it one of the most beautiful in the country. You must not forget, of course, to wear very warm clothes when you go up to that summit!

Ascoli Piceno

In this part of the country the Adriatic coast has dreamlike corners like the one of Numana, with crystal-clear turquoise water and white sand surrounded by rocks and forest.
